Twelve-year-old Italian Elenya (Pascale Delafouge-Jones) is forced to live with her aunt in Wales while her father fights in World War II. A social outcast with only one friend, Sidney (Iago Wynn Jones), and a target of the school bully, Phil (Edward Elwyn Jones), Elenya takes to wandering through the woods. There, she comes across downed German airman Franz (Klaus J. Behrendt). Elenya befriends the man, bringing him food and other comforts, never thinking to turn him in as an enemy soldier.
