Otavio (Gianfrancesco Guarnieri) is an idealistic union leader trying to organize workers at a factory to resist the company's exploitative practices. His son, Tiao (Carlos Alberto Riccelli), one of the employees, is more of a realist and doesn't want to risk losing his job by striking. This clash of perspectives puts the father and son at odds. Fortunately, Tiao's mother, Romana (Fernanda Montenegro), is on hand to act as a moderator between the two opinionated men.

Audience Member A realistic and terrific film, with very good direction by Leon Hirszman and with outstanding actings by the cast, especially by Fernanda Montenegro and Gianfrancesco Guarnieri. A fantastic tale about the fight of the workers, not just with the factory, but also in this world full of injustice, authoritarianism and imperialism. They Don't Wear Black Tie, is not only a unmissable film, but a scream of help. Fresh. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member A film about social unrest in a region of Brazil, where the strikes are the main expressions of nonconformity. Leon Hirzman made a great movie, and chose a great cast to match the film: Gianfrancesco Guarnieri and Fernanda Montenegro among others. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
