Though 11-year-old Emma (Line Kruse) may be materially spoiled, she wants more attention from her distant parents -- so she fakes her own kidnapping and roams the streets, until she falls and skins her knee. She receives help from an ex-convict and sewer worker, Malthe (Börje Ahlstedt), by convincing him that her Russian noble family is being pursued by Soviet assassins. An unlikely friendship develops, but Emma sticks to the lie, even as the cops close in and the pair flees through the sewers.
