Critics Consensus

The Emperor's New Groove isn't the most ambitious animated film, but its brisk pace, fresh characters, and big laughs make for a great time for the whole family.

More fun, goofy cartoon antics than Disney polish. Go to Full Review

Ingenious action sequences driven by surprisingly little plot lead to a climax full of the transmogrification animation was invented for. Go to Full Review

Emperor doesn't aim too high or strain too hard; it is at ease inhabiting its pretty, miniature realm. Go to Full Review

Even the most risk-averse, anxiety-possessing children can look at this film and giggle because the film takes Kuzco’s evolution seriously and nothing else, making all the dangerous obstacles and deadly plots farcical and hilarious. Go to Full Review

There’s a certain hipness and modernness to the characters and their conversations, providing a curious contrast to the ancient Incan setting, but it’s not enough to set it apart as a notable project. Go to Full Review

01/24/2021 still funny after all these years my step son actually sat through the whole thing amazing See more Laura D @lauruhh Dec 30 Have watched this movie many times, is a comfort movie of mine. See more dustination P @dustination Dec 30 A very fun Disney film. It brings a balanced humor that both adults & kids will thoroughly enjoy. If the Disney films with princesses singing aren't your cup of tea, this might be worth checking out. It's two polar opposites that become friends after working together to overcome several obstacles, so think something along the lines of Planes, Trains, & Automobiles - except animated. A solid film that has great animation and a terrific voice cast. Highly recommended! See more Andrew T @ATMOVIEGUY Dec 17 A funny, clever animated Disney movie that has extremely hilarious meta humor, creative stylized animation, and a cast of quirky characters. The only things about the movie that I didn't like were how mean-spirited Kuzco, the protagonist, started out as, and how extremely rushed the movie's pacing is. Still worth a watch.
