Audience Member An interesting but ultimately disappointing entry in the ever-growing sub-genre of sociopathic youth films (Ils, Eden Lake, The Strangers, etc., etc.), The New Girlfriend starts off with real potential as a unique twist on the rape-revenge paradigm, but it ultimately wimps out and becomes little more than a family drama instead of the brutal horror film it could have been. Still, given its release date in 1999, it is rather prescient of the films to come.... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member first off its so Australian, the type of situation that would never take place in The U.S, like who would steal a dress from a pool locker? or walk around in a bikini top like club med while wearing black lip stick,? the box cover for this movie is some chick with a knife but it has nothing to do with a killer, its about a lady who steals back a dress a hoodlum steals from her and as a result the girl and her boyfriend sexually asult her son and initiate a back and forth battle. with ridiculous Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Debut director Julie Money shows remarkable assurance with material rarely tackled in Australian cinema. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Not the best Aussie film I've seen but not too bad. I found it very hard to watch at times, mainly because I know the area it was filmed in. The acting wasn't exactly any good but the story line was and it had a good moral lesson plus a dramatic ending. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Not the best Aussie film I've seen but not too bad. I was however very distracted because a lot of it was filmed around where I live and when I'd just start to get into it they'd show a place I knew and well I'd get carried away with thinking "I went swimming there" or "I lived just down the road from that" which led me to trying to think of any time I have seen a film crew around. Very hard to watch. Also one of the scenes involves the son being dropped off back at school and for someone who goes to that place I knew it wasn't a school so it just wasn't believable for me, even with the background noise they added. Shame though because it was clever. Other then all of that it was a good story line with a good moral lesson. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
