Escape Room is not anything to get terribly excited about. But where suspense is concerned, the premise works: even when the trajectory of the story is easy to predict, there's no knowing what may be hidden behind any specific locked door.

It was a basic plot with simple characters, but the traumatic horror elements dive deeper into psychological horror. However on paper it sounded much more interesting and unique but the poor writing and bland casting kind of ruined it. Definitely not a horror masterpiece but it’s entertaining enough to be a C tier film at least.

I groaned when Taylor Russel's character, one of our two protagonists, first started delivering the dialogue that is meant to tell the audience she was a genius. It wasn't the only sloppy storytelling technique. Had the moviemakers taken the time to smooth out the rough spots, ESCAPE ROOM could have become a classic. The most horrifying part of the story is when we see the influence of puppet masters with too much money on their hands. What we see in the "escape room" might be fiction, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. Sadism, unchecked wealth, no oversight. . .it's what has brought our world to the abyss.
