Audience Member It's a beautiful coming of age movie where the main character falls in love with his best friend depicting the internal struggles of coming to this realisation with an element of self sabotage in trying to avoid these feelings. The ending is very artistically done which leaves you wondering how the best friend truly feels and pondering if their friendship has a future. Optimistically I'd like to think that Shane truly does love Jonathan and he currently does not have the courage to say it and be with him fully. However, some doubt remains in that Shane may have always know of Jonathon's feelings yet chose to ignore them up until the chance that he may lose him and therefore he acted in the only way he thought he could in order to keep him by his side. As for Carrie, I recognise the importance of her character in providing the realisation for Johnathon and the.first live match for Shane, yet to hoped that when she said she would be Shane's girlfriend if he got into university that she was just putting it off and allowing time to Johnathon to confess. So, I found it very disappointing when that didn't happen and how she became a very poor friend for Johnathon. However, it ultimately shows the true selfishness of human beings where each and every one of us may put ourselves first and it is only out of true love and selflessness that you would give up your potential happiness for someone's else (as Johnathon continues to try to do).
