Lee N As I write, 'Eureka' has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 33%, which seems ridiculous. Even more ridiculous, it's described as a comedy - whilst it has its funny moments, it's no more a comedy than 'Taxi Driver' is a musical or 'Hostel' is a romance. This is a grim, gritty psychological drama - don't be put off by the nonsense on this page! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/10/23 Full Review ashley h Eureka is an excellent film. It is about Arctic prospector Jack McCann who becomes a rich man when he strikes gold in 1925. Gene Hackman and Theresa Russell give amazing performances. The screenplay is well written. Nicolas Roeg did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama. Eureka is a must see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member good modern western like robert altman's 'mccabe & mrs. miller' Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member A mess of a film. Rutger Hauer as a qabalahist? Setting alive metaphors in a movie is far frrom easy, this is evidence. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Kind of interesting at the start, but it ends up being a pretty straight, pretty boring period piece. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member For those that want to categorize this film as convoluted - they obviously don't enjoy metaphors or even direct examples of contradictions in life. This film has excellent acting, deep intrigue, sensuality and timeless topic regarding search for wealth or fortune. I can't leave out the wollop of brutality and danger. As with all Roegs films, he weaves in occult and magic even in the most subtle ways but sometimes very direct with links in most films that are almost subconcious stamps of familiarity which go hand in hand with his technical film making style which I personally feel akin to. A film not for people who do not desire multi leveled story telling. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Walter Goodman New York Times ... the director's strivings for tricky effects seem to have left him little attention to spare for developing his characters or drawing passable performances from his actors... Dec 14, 2017 Full Review Kate Muir Times (UK) More a curio than a straightforward classic, Nicolas Roeg's Eureka is beyond weird. The film stumbles under one of the weakest scripts he ever dealt with.
