Anthony E This is the kind of Cinderella film that amplifies the integrity of the characters and overall storytelling of the fairytale we're all accustomed to by offering a more worldly standpoint; some points from yore that were left to be desired are highlighted as it shows in this film. This movie shows our Cinderella character, Danielle, as more assertive, yet vulnerable at times, which is balanced well between her developing relationship with the prince throughout the movie, as well as her dealing with her stepmother and stepsisters, which does help the story remarkably well. It's an overall refreshing retelling of a classic fairytale that just can't be missed. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review Courtney W This movie was so far ahead of it's time. Which is ironic since it's set in the past. Anyways, Danielle de Barabarac is easily one of my all time favorite characters on film; Drew Barrymore did a fantastic job playing her. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Ash P Out of all Cinderella movies, this and the Rodger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella are my all time favorites. The chemistry between Danielle and the prince were well written as much as the side characters who are all likable as well as Anjelica Huston playing the evil stepmother. The drama and the romance was a good enough magical mix as the actors put their all into their roles. Not much of a problem at all but a happily ever after as this movie has been since I was in middle school and good to see this again as I'm older. 10/10. Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader Drew Barrymore plays the complicated belle of the climactic ball and develops a convincing intellectually based friendship with the prince. Aug 16, 2010 Full Review Leonard Klady Variety The script by Susannah Grant, Rick Parks and director Andy Tennant successfully maintains the story's period trappings while introducing a heroine with modern resonance. Jul 1, 2008 Full Review Wally Hammond Time Out Given that this is adolescent romance, never straying far from traditional stereotypes, its 'progressive' feel-good aura is mainly down to Barrymore, whose limitations are only exposed in big love scenes. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight This is a fun film that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys medieval literature or motion pictures and especially those out there who love fantasy.
