In a small village in Leon, Spain, María José prepares to end her life after failing to get over the death of her son years before. Everything changes when she receives a visit from Lucía, a strange little girl who might be connected to a local legend about stopping an impending apocalypse. With the enigmatic girl by her side, María José faces the corrupt community, triggering strange events and a series of horrific deaths among the local population.

I've been seeing a few Spanish and Mexican horror films lately that are very involving and actually more engaging as they unfold. This is a great movie that had me constantly wondering if anyone was the "good guys", but rooting for the apparent underdogs, whether that made moral sense in the big picture, or not, and wondering what that may mean. Anyway, moral ambivalence or not, it's a hell of a ride.

Argues strangely with no moral common ground to stand when leaning between ambiguity and uniquely expressed obviousness, both familiarly sensed and well told towards a conflicting resolution, all while frantic embodiments and deviously calmness was mustered well in excelling the characters. (B)
