Jonathan Romney Independent on Sunday This low-budget British chamber piece has an intriguing scenario, so it's a shame that the po-faced, sci-fi-tinged screenplay fixates on the applicants' efforts to detect invisible ink on their exam papers. Jan 15, 2010 Full Review Robbie Collin News of the World You're left with the nagging suspicion that, with just one more script polish, it could have been something very special. Rated: 3/5 Jan 15, 2010 Full Review Nev Pierce Empire Magazine A modern morality tale in the sleek guise of a sci-fi-tinged thriller. The setting is modest, the ambition is big. Rated: 4/5 Jan 8, 2010 Full Review Michael Leader Den of Geek A lot of high emotions, jarring shifts in tone and a conclusion that makes it all seem pointless in retrospect, or, in other words, a dumb method of whittling away an hour and a half of your time... Rated: 3/5 May 7, 2024 Full Review Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight A tight psychological thriller with a slight sci-fi edge. A great find. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 9, 2011 Full Review Michael W. Phillips, Jr. Goatdog's Movies Low-budget but handsomely mounted cross between Cube and 12 Angry Men, with some script input by mystery writer Agatha Christie and literary critic Terry Eagleton. Breno G Special Effects: 0,5/Sound Effects: 0,5/Acting: 0,0/Story: 0,5 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/14/24 Full Review Frederico Teixeira G The whole film takes place in a room where 8 candidates must answer one question to get hired each candidate having one sheet of paper to write their answer. Turns out that apparently there are no question as all papers only holds the candidate number at the front and the back page is blank, leaving the candidates wondering as to how to find out what the question is. As they turn out to discover they can interact and talk to each other the film draws on their psychological characteristics on their attempt to prove they have the better qualification. The idea is not bad and the fact that there is only one room where the action takes place isn’t an excuse for the film to be bad. As a matter of fact there are brilliant films that use that set. The problem here is that every conflict is painfully predictable and the ending is so dull. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/24 Full Review Apple S Good movie. I enjoyed it. It was clever, different, thought-provoking. I was quite gripped all the way through and at times, incensed and maddened, which is probably a good sign of how involved I was. At times the writing felt strained and a touch far-fetched, but I was willing to suspend disbelief as I applauded what they were attempting. There was plenty of mystery and ingenuity, and the moral battles between the candidates was interesting to watch unfold as those who thought themselves good, proved to be just as bad as those they thought bad. The acting wasn't great, but it was good enough. I'm glad I watched it. It felt like a unique film I'll likely remember for a long time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review sweet z It's a movie that thinks it's very smart, but it's not even half as smart as it thinks it is. The final scene is very stupid. The acting is very bad. Still, it makes you watch it for an hour and a half. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Aaliya S It kept me rooted to the seat, it kept my attention, and the mystery made me curious. I admired how it revolved around an anxious environment with every character surprising us in the next scene. We rarely get to see such brilliantly shot movies. I wish the ending when the mystery about the "Question" was revealed were revealed in a better way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/25/23 Full Review Maya L Ruined by a lackluster ending but a gripping thriller until then Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
