British screenwriter and director Stuart Hazeldine sold his first script when he was 24 and hasn't looked back since. Hazeldine, who studied at the University of Kent and spent a year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, got his start writing spec scripts that attracted attention from British producers and Hollywood agents. It was through one such agent that Hazeldine met Australian director Alex Proyas, who directed such stylized films as "The Crow" and "Dark City." Since then Hazeldine has worked on a number of Proyas' scripts, including the 2009 sci-fi film "Knowing" and a long-gestating adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe's "Masque of Red Death." While continuing to pursue his growing career as a professional script doctor, in 1999 Hazeldine served as associate producer on the well-recieved drama "After the Truth," a fictionalized story about the prosecution of notorious Nazi scientist Dr. Josef Mengele. A few years later he wrote the pilot episode of "Riverworld," based on author Philip Jose Farmer's sci-fi novels about an artificial world and its resurrected inhabitants, which was eventually aired in 2003 as a stand-alone TV movie. Hazeldine has since written and directed "Exam," a psychological thriller set in an isolated corporate office, which was purchased by IFC Films and released on DVD in 2010.
