Critics Consensus

Knowing has some interesting ideas and a couple good scenes, but it's weighted down by its absurd plot and over-seriousness.

Rated: F Sep 12, 2017 Full Review Jordan Hoffman UGO Knowing feels like a bunch of cool ideas that were strewn about a table, picked up, shoved together, tied up with duct tape and, somehow, managed to stay working for the ride. Rated: B Aug 14, 2009 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald Rather like watching an intricately arranged set of dominos starting to topple. That's neat. I didn't see that one coming, you think, as yet another train carriage joins the pile-up. Rated: 2/5 Apr 3, 2009 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The result should not be dismissed as an average thriller, and yet, seen in those terms, it still succeeds because Proyas is a superior director, and after several missteps, he has finally redeemed himself with another fine piece of science fiction. Audience Member Nothing too special, but it did have me wondering what was going on a few times. Not a satisfying ending, but I found it interesting to a point. Okay, but not great. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review Martin M I absolutely loved this movie. The only drawback is that it starts off quite slow and ends too abruptly. An extra hour would have allowed for a more complete resolution of the plot. Despite this, it’s an absolute must watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/24/24 Full Review Christopher W I enjoyed the plot. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Diogo A Ótimo filme, história impactante Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/19/24 Full Review Rupak M Nicholas Cage starrer "Knowing" reminded me of Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and also has similarities with Keanu Reeves' "The Day the Earth Stood Still". It has the touch of that Spielberg's 70s movie but certainly not the class of it. But the unique thing about the movie was it was 'dark' throughout, not a light moment, neither Cage nor the child actors or the lady played by Rosy Byrne could conjure up a smile at any moment. The brooding MIT professor kept brooding throughout and the knowledge of the impending disasters didn't seem to help his cause. As a viewer, can only pass a judgment but can't say what exact mix makes a movie from poor to average to good to great !!! 6/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/21/24 Full Review B G Actually graphic for a PG-13 film. The only scene that was pretty well done was the plane and the subway disasters, but the solar flare was just awful. Not helping that nowadays some people are really worried that the world will end.
