Critics Consensus

Still a bright beacon in the Star Trek universe, Strange New Worlds' third season makes up for its lack of narrative ambition with gleaming execution.

Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) It has everything the discerning Trekkie could want. Epic interstellar battles, dodgy yellow knitwear and alien races with pointy plastic ears that look like they might go warp factor nine near an open flame. Rated: 4/5 Jul 17, 2025 Full Review Clint Worthington RogerEbert.com A show that continues to uphold the ideals of its franchise’s point of origin, even as its swings boldly go nowhere all that deep. Jul 17, 2025 Full Review Christian Blauvelt IndieWire All that’s left is the fun. Hey, who are we to complain when it’s a show this fun? But “Star Trek” always has had the capacity to be more, and so has this show. Rated: B- Jun 16, 2025 Full Review Monita Roy Mohan Stereo Geeks (Podcast) It’s got the balance of episodic storytelling and a continuing narrative. But the gimmicky episodes aren’t the only highlights. They’ve given us such lovely characters, played by these compelling actors who just capture the screen. Aug 9, 2025 Full Review Travis Johnson Blunt Magazine It’s a throwback in the best possible way, embracing the derring-do spirit of the original series, along with its determination to explore a broad range of ideas and scenarios. Jul 23, 2025 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Tribune-Review It may be tough to churn up much excitement for “SNW” based on the mixed quality of the first five episodes of the new season. Felipe B Excelente secuela. algunos capitulos son muy de relleno, pero hay otros muy entretenidos. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/12/25 Full Review Jawa L Last season was so good, but what is up with the parody episodes? A wedding episode? Come on!? Like it looks like a show runner or writer was trying to reinvent Strange new worlds, with these varied silly themes, but it comes across as bad camp vs comedy. I mean even the episodes of Next Generation that were based on the simulation floors were still contextually on the ship and there was a larger story at play. It just feels sloppy and lazy. And I hate having to write these words, as I love the new Star Trek especially Strange new worlds. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/12/25 Full Review Joe M This is an excellent Star Trek series, not sure of all the hate. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Keith B Season 3 is getting worse and worse by the episode. I had hope for this show but you are turning into discovery which is not a good thing. Garbage writing, highlighting the worst characters, no point to the episodes. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Rebecca S We are enjoying it. The cast continues to excel and the scripts are a continuing mix of lighthearted and serious. No, it’s not quite as fresh as prior seasons but it’s still one of the best things going. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Audience Member I don't know what the heck I'm watching anymore. I loved season 1 and season 2 had some real bangers... but what the heck is this crap? We are back to the old Kurtzman trope of eye torture? This show has gone from one of the most promising shows to completely unwatchable. I have never turned a single Star Trek show off mid-way through... but I can't even finish this tripe. It's SOOOOO bad. The characters suck. No one acts even remotely professional, let alone like they are part of an elite organization. It's just silly. I'll go back to watching DS9 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Read all reviews
