Death-defying feats make great footage, but it’s almost always the same story, which is that death can only be defied for so long. Go to Full Review

The Dark Wizard immediately moves away from Potter's idealized image in the climbing world, presenting him instead as a gifted but troubled man who used extreme high-altitude sports to find joy and escape his psychological pain. Go to Full Review

Yes, there's breath-taking footage of the many awe-inspiring acts that made Potter famous. But rather than purely mythologising him, the filmmakers have gone to great lengths to give insight into his personal struggles and motivations. Go to Full Review

Gary R. @Geirloom 52m One of the most inspiring and thought-provoking documentaries I’ve ever seen. Dean was as charismatic as he was enigmatic; his hero’s journey is defined by both brilliant light and abysmal darkness. Highly recommend—but keep the tissues close for the final ~15 minutes of episode 4. See more Drew M. @Stonehands211 1h Hands down the best docu-series of the year. Insanely human. I really felt like I knew Dean and co. by the end. I was on the edge of my seat for every single stunt because I knew that at some point it was going to be his last and I had no idea which stunt was going to be his last one. Really compelling stuff. His thought process was just as compelling throughout a lot of this. His manic episodes and bouts with depression were so hard to watch but absolutely needs to be to see why these thrill seekers do what they do. I’m sure they’re not all like him but I’m sure there’s a little but of Dean in their psychology. I would like to see Alex be analyzed more by scientists to see what the fuck is going on in their heads as they’re doing this stuff. See more Michael Shane B @KVD1969 2h A dark magician is lured out of hiding by a rival’s challenge, only to discover his old enemies have united to end his legacy. As he battles through a series of underground duels, the line between his stage persona and his true identity begins to dangerously blur. He must confront the shadows of his past while masterminding a final, impossible escape from the authorities closing in. This gritty descent into the world of forbidden magic reveals the heavy price of power and the secrets buried beneath his fame. Ultimately, the master of deception has one last trick to play, proving that the most dangerous magic is the one you never see coming. See more Jeff Z @JZimbalist 1d Masterful craftsmanship, deep complex humanity, insane adventure, loved it. See more Jimmy P. @jp3169 1d Might be the greatest documentary I've ever seen. That ending!! See more SourSox R. @SourSox 2d An Absolutely exhilarating, nail-biting, emotional roller coaster about a truly flawed, but remarkable visionary risk taker, who lived life on the edges. As someone who struggles with bi-polar, I can relate to a lot of Dean's ups and downs (literally). Albeit, Ive never taken my highs to quite the extreme as Potter had. Fantastic Doc Series. Give it a watch, even if not a fan or climbing or extreme sports. It is truly a human story inside and out. See more Read all reviews
