Superheroes are often as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and sometimes even as revered as gods. But that's when they're using their powers for good. What happens when the heroes go rogue and start abusing their powers? When it's the powerless against the super powerful, the Boys head out on a heroic quest to expose the truth about the Seven and Vought, the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets. Based on the comic book series of the same name.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Boys stays true to its form and completes its mission with ample panache, narrative pay-off, and an excess of blood and guts to deviously glorious effect.

While the political satire doesn’t always land, diabolism prevails -- The Boys will be The Boys.

The Boys’ latest comeback is proving to be promising, though, in a way that bodes well for the conclusion of a series that once felt profane, fresh, and exciting. Go to Full Review

The show’s fifth and final season has a familiar structure... But it stays strong – there’s even more gore and screw-loose social media commentary. Go to Full Review

The greatest existential threat in the show's final season turns out to be reality itself. Go to Full Review

With earlier seasons, most of this sardonic imagery felt exaggerated enough to come off as political satire. But in this final season, the material has unfortunately aged like fine wine, much to the chagrin of Kripke’s razor sharp wit. Go to Full Review

The meandering final season doesn’t negate what The Boys as a whole accomplished. This gory, bloody mess has heart, and it’s justifiably angry and ready to beat you over the head with its messaging. Go to Full Review

The final episode sends the show out on a surprisingly good note, but considering how little everything else even resembles a dramatic endgame, that’s not quite enough for me to say the season works as a whole. Go to Full Review

Bob T @RT01958093 2d Earlier seasons are better, but this is still worth a watch. I see the low Popcornmeter rating and I KNOW the MAGAs are (finally) seeing the sarcasm. Not surprising. It does gloss over some impacts of the decisions that are made and surprisingly doesn't have Homelander 'going off' on a "No Gods" protest. Still the plot moves along and resolves nicely. See more GD B @RT94157348 2d Very underwhelming final season due to a lack of stakes, in the sense that the show has been building up towards chaos and destruction but nothing actually happens. I have no clue where their budget went and why they made so many poor budgeting prioritisation decisions. The writing was very poor. SPOILERS AHEAD Sister Sage did nothing that couldn't have been done without her despite supposedly being the smartest. New Black Noir served no purpose other than to develop The Deep. Soldier Boy should not have been written out of the finale altogether. Gen V characters were written in poorly. Starlight flew The Deep to the beach even though that's supposed to be advantageous for him, she didn't know he's hated by sea creatures. The public didn't have more than 1 minute to react to Homelander becoming God, and Homelander doesn't have any time cause any damage before he's defeated. Homelander was nerfed to oblivion in the final fight despite being on V1. 3.5 stars, could've been much worse. See more francesca B @FrancescaTheWise 2d While it was always going to be difficult to satisfactorily land this show, considering how big it was, the writers really dropped the ball at the end. I won't go into specifics so I don't ruin it for anyone that still hasn't seen it, but put loosely, it felt like they hadn't really thought it through. Or put another way, they decided on an ending and wrote the character arcs to fit it, whether they made sense or not. Which is so disappointing, because like Game of Thrones, there's no point rewatching it, if you know the ending sucks already. No payoff I hope the actor that played Homelander gets recognised, because he was a very satisfying villain, I genuinely disliked his character to the very end. Had such high hopes for this season...mostly dashed See more Doug M @RT78640217 2d Started as a good show, but dragged on way too long, getting dumber and dumber. Even compared to most media lately, this show set a high for lazy, leftist storytelling. Even the jokes were tired by the end. See more Cenk K. @volatex 2d I was expecting more from the last episode but left unsatisfied. However, with the constant decline in quality of writing from the second season onward, I should have seen it coming. See more Henry B @Henb12345 2d Very disappointed considering how good the earlier series were. You can smell the tv execs all over it. Corny, obvious, cliche. See more Read all reviews
