What to Know

Critics Consensus

Alexander Skarsgård's superbly dry wit brings a lot of heart to Murderbot, making for a refreshingly jaunty sci-fi saga about finally coming out of one's shell.

Melanie McFarland Salon.com An AI like Murderbot may indeed become autonomous one day. We should be so lucky, not just for the comedic possibilities but for the validation. May 27, 2025 Full Review Ridge Harripersad CGMagazine Murderbot’s visuals/VFX, fight choreography, and dialogue triumphed across the board...the 30-minute episode format worked for this series, allowing the jokes to be quick and punchy. Ed C I have to say I was delightfully surprised by this series. It had a bit of a gimmicky name but once you watch it and know why they used the name it makes sense.. Alexander Skarsgaard dies an amazing performance of secbot, a human team of scientists security bot that accompanies them on the dangerous areas of the planet they are researching biding his tie to escape the planet entirely as he has hacked his governor module, that which forces him to follow and humans commands. I will say that the cast was not equally as talented. The teams lead did an acceptable job and David Dastmalchian's performance of a souped up human (ie one with cybernetics in them) of Gurathin was excellent but the rest were very hit and miss with Akshay Khanna's portrayal of Rathi being the perfect comedy relief. The rest were just meeeeh. Its sad too because the board, those representing the corporation that owns the planet and leases out access to it to various groups and peoples, were a far more interesting lot then the key players in the season. Clark Gregg, agent Coulson in the MCU, had a very entertaining small part as one of the cast in secbots most beloved serial, The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon! Laos in the cast is John Cho, the actor who plays Sulu in the JJ Abrahams Star Trek reboot The serial itself, Crescent noon, is clearly a riff on Start Trek and they do a grand job of it; funny and humorous but respectful too. I hoe this gets renewed for a season 2 however they left it ending with a could go either way ending. There were many unanswered Q's but that may be forever in tis show as I would be surprised to seek Skarsgard do another season of this unless the timing is just really good, It is a 10 episode season but most are 20-30 mins long so they can be quickly consumed w/o realizing your near the end! Hopefully the Moon has yet to fall on Crescent Moon! Season 2 ideas? 1) Secbot finds out his old team is in a bit of trouble on the planet and so he returns to help only to find himself the one in need of help as his mind is eaten away by some alien micro virus 2) The first half of the season features 2 stories running in parallel. One has secbot hooking up with a questionable gallery of rogues while his old team have returned to the planet determined to relocate the prior site they had once found only to find yet another mysterious and shady corporation in the way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Rob W This show is unwatchable. Cannot understand how these rating are so high. If a show about cat fighting is the only other choice, I choose the cats. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/29/25 Full Review Travis J Show is absolutely amazing! So original and so funny quite the breath of fresh air and def needed with all the terrible viewing out there. Can not wait for season 2 lord willing! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/29/25 Full Review Endika V A must watch, my only complaint is that each episode was too short. I want more murderbot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Mark C I love the books and find the show as comforting and fun. The changes made for a visual medium as well as for characterization make sense. I'm looking forward to the next season. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Myles G. Had its fun quirky moments but was great overall . Have heard amazing things about the books but I thoroughly enjoyed the show . 8/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
