There’s the seeds of something extraordinary here thanks to the endearing chemistry of the characters. Hopefully, the anime will flesh out the contours of its lead before the punchline of him being an overweight ex-hitman becomes stale.

A slick mix of action and comedy, Sakamoto Days reimagines the hitman genre through humor and heart.... Former assassin Taro Sakamoto trades blood for groceries, only to find his past refusing to stay buried. The series balances chaotic fight scenes with warm domestic moments, offering a refreshing twist on the “retired killer” trope....While the pacing wobbles and side characters lack depth, the show’s energy, clever choreography, and deadpan humor keep it engaging.... Visually vibrant and tonally playful, it’s as much about inner peace as it is about headshots....

I usually love this kind of anime, but this is one anime where I simply couldn't get through. I think it's not an anime issue, but a me issue. I'm just not used to seeing plus-sized heroes in anime series, so it might be me. But, it's similar to many other fun animes. It's good, but just not my cup of tea.
