What to Know

Critics Consensus

A winning showcase for Megan Stalter, Too Much's approach to modern love is coolly detached but creator Lena Dunham's sharp sense of humor remains just right.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It can be eruptive and lacerating along the way, but there’s also room for a rom-com reckoning. It’s anything but generic: only Lena Dunham could have made this. Rated: 4/5 Aug 18, 2025 Full Review Judy Berman TIME Magazine A genre-savvy, meta romantic comedy in the tradition of Emily Henry’s novels and the best of Nora Ephron. Aug 1, 2025 Full Review Phillip Maciak The New Republic Stalter is a sensational comic performer, and one of the things she’s best able to do is to convey the frenzied insecurity of her character. Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Margot Harrison Seven Days (VT) The show has some witty dialogue and sharp insights into relationships, and the scenes of Jessica and Felix just hanging out...But I couldn't help thinking both of these talented actors deserved a more focused, less self-indulgent project. Aug 20, 2025 Full Review Steve Murray ArtsATL Creator Lena Dunham should know better than to give her new show a title that lazy critics like me can use against it. But here I go: Too Much really is, but it’s also not enough. Aug 7, 2025 Full Review James Croot The Post NZ It’s hard not to like a show whose episode titles include Pity Woman, Ignore Sunrise, Enough, Actually and One Wedding and a Sex Pest, but Too Much has more than enough going on to ensure you’ll be bingeing them all as soon as you can. Kimberley C I really wanted to like this programme as I loved Girls (watched the episodes repeatedly). However, as another reviewer has said - too much wasn't enough. It's boring. The focus is too much on the main couple - scenes are slow and the two main characters are hard to connect with. I get that Jessica is meant to be 'too much' and there are some moments where she is funny. Though overall, she comes across in a more irritating way than the potential to be endearing, empowering, or relatable. Focusing on more characters could make this more watchable and there is a part of me that hopes that if I keep watching - I'll end up liking it. Though at this stage, I've made it about half way through and I've given up. To other reviewers commenting on Jessica's weight as a reason for not enjoying the show or liking her as a character - do better. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/30/25 Full Review Ieva D Good idea horrible execution, i couldnt get through one episode in full kept skipping and fast forwarding and gace up by episode 5 . as the title suggest everythng is too much. Its sad as I was expecting to love it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review Lynn R From the description, I thought I would like this series. I enjoyed the first episode. I knew nothing about who created it but when I started to see who was in it and listened to the writing I realized it was Lena from Gurls. I enjoyed that series a lot. I also lived in London 20 years ago to go to culinary school so I thought it would be fun to watch to see what this girls adventures would be like. I’m sorry to say that as soon as I got into the second episode this series got very unrealistic for me. There is no way this girl was going to meet this kind of guy on her first night. And I was quite embarrassed the way she came on to him. And not to sound too shallow, but this girl is very very over weight. I get the impression she is Lena’s alter ego. The episode where they are in bed to all night quite frankly was just boring! And? I want to know who the girls stylist is. Bc these clothes do nothing for her figure. I’m half way through with the series and I’m finding it tedious and very disappointing. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/24/25 Full Review wajo N Can we stop glorifying obesity. The whole show was disgusting to watch. Funny how the men were always thin. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/21/25 Full Review Drew V Fun, light watch. The lead might be a bit unbearable but that's where the humor comes from. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Stacey M I love rom-coms but it was very clear from the beginning this one would not be for me. The acting was forced and the relationship came across the screen as unrealistic. I felt no connection. Maybe it gets better. I lasted 6 episodes before I tapped out. Big no on this one for me.
