What to Know

Critics Consensus

Foundation's narratively knotty third season doesn't quite measure up to its superb predecessor, but this sci-fi epic endures as a faithful and well-acted adaptation of Isaac Asimov's masterpiece.

Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) Ludicrous, lavish and larkingly largely than life, it is one of the most bonkers TV shows ever made and all the richer for that lack of inhibition. Foundation is science fiction with rocket jets cranked to the max... Rated: 4/5 Jul 11, 2025 Full Review Nick Schager The Daily Beast Continues to put the rest of its small-screen genre brethren to shame with its momentous, magnificent third season. Jul 10, 2025 Full Review James Dyer Empire Magazine A stunning, sweeping and cerebral space odyssey. Rated: 4/5 Jul 7, 2025 Full Review Brian Farvour The Playlist A review of what’s been seen thus far can’t begin to describe the brilliance that is “Foundation.” It needs to be experienced. It truly is that good. Rated: A Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Rafael Motamayor IGN Movies Foundation season 3 delivers on the promise of an epic-scale sci-fi story with the tone and pace of a blockbuster movie. Rated: 9/10 Jul 22, 2025 Full Review Brandon Lewis FandomWire The series has always had some semblance of a “pick your own adventure” vibe, but this season seems to embrace it fully. It ensures that each pocket of its universe is compelling in its own right so that it can stand on its own. Rated: 7/10 Jul 22, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I thoroughly enjoyed seasons 1 & 2, but so far in 3 it's been hard to keep watching, the plot, writing and acting have all been well below previous seasons .. I really hope it improves. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/29/25 Full Review Daniel M. H It’s like Star Wars—if Star Wars was made by competent people. Foundation feels like one of those generation-defining shows, in the same league as Breaking Bad, but rooted in science fiction. It’s at least as good as The Expanse, perhaps even better. While it diverges from Asimov’s books in several ways to suit television, those changes enhance the storytelling rather than diminish the brilliance of the source material. The casting is also generally superb, and the CGI is beautiful and seamless. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Nikki M I'm so excited to see where we're going next in this show!!! Foundation is a captivating show filled with intriguing and harrowing storylines. The visual effects on this show are so seamless and stunning that I forget that they are effects and not just filmed in the future of humanity in space!!!!! All the characters are absolutely dynamic and fascinating! Costumes and makeup and hair are perfect and lend themselves to the believability of every character, location, and scene. If you are a lover of Sci-Fi, Foundation is a TREAT and a visual, storytelling FEAST! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Chris T Spends too much time trying to be clever, forgets its weekly story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/27/25 Full Review K F TV shows, especially American ones have a long history of losing their way in season 3 for some reason. Unfortunately, my excitement for season 3 of Foundation was quickly squashed in the first couple episodes by this tradition. First story wise, it's boring. Second, there is the too-clever-by half and clunky and sloppy use of jumping around with timelines, without any proper markers to help the audience keep up... I just ignored the time jumps, which severely limits the likeability of the episodes. Third, the key word for season 3, "overacting." The series never boasted a deep bench of strong actors anyway but the weaker were diluted by the few stronger ones and the writing made up for the cracks in between. But something happened and it's apparently contagious. Lee Pace's normal tendency to over-dramatise has worked until now as Day. But in season 3, his libertine Brother Day is way, way, way over the top, never relents and comes off as 2 dimensional. Similarly, Cassian Bilton, now as a all-business Brother Dawn, comes off as silly. For me the real tragedy is Pilou Asbæk, who I fell in love with in Borgen. He is just an over the top, caricature of a sill American superhero movie villain. He is a fantastic actor, so maybe it is the hammyness of the script. But the absolute unforgivable tragedies and why I don't think I can continue watching it are the abysmal performances by Cody Fern and Brandon P. Bell. Fern Not the character) is just seems clownish and his expressions and reactions betray someone who didn't read their script before hand and doesn't care. Bell is just a bad actor and his voice in tone and pacing does not fit the genre, series, time etc. Even worse, they appear in scenes together! Very bizarre casting decisions. Really too bad because I really pumped up this show to people as a glorious space opera based on the first 2 seasons. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Givona S I don't like it that much to be honest. It is missing Hari and Gaal. Brother Dawn is the only likable character so far. I hope that it will get better. The Mule scenes are just too much. We get it. He's a psychopath. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/25/25 Full Review Read all reviews
