All of Amadeus’s contemporaneous stylistic and dialogue choices are a blast, but the series’ suggestion that this kind of guy is plaguing our present, too, feels the most timeless, and the most unsettling. Go to Full Review

It does what every worthwhile adaptation does (and what so many other recent re-adaptations have failed to do), which is make the story feel complete unto itself. Go to Full Review

The music, the sets, the costumes—all gorgeous—but pallid imitation fails as sincere flattery in this overstuffed, five-part streaming version of a Tony winning play and Oscar-winning movie. Go to Full Review

Without the depth of Mozart's character anchoring the story it becomes an untethered, sprawling mess, with a longer runtime than the film and significantly less to offer. Go to Full Review

Amadeus works as a series, not just because it looks fantastic, but that the main characters are treated as the nuanced people they were, and there seems to be less filler than one might expect. Go to Full Review

Smith D. @RT30928287 3d What makes the new series so disappointing is the filmmakers and actors seemingly utter cluelessness about music. From absurd, totally unrealistic physical gestures while conducting or performing, to utterly cheesy and unfathomable performance situations, there seems to be absolutely no core understanding of the tone and feel of what it is to be a performing musician and/or composer; both of which were so expertly captured by Milos Forman in the original film. I’ll give it three stars because Paul Bettany is pretty good and because it is sort of interesting as a fanboy to get more exposition of the characters. What a waste of an opportunity though, to make something truly memorable. See more Elizabeth G @RT98725609 May 23 So very disappointing. Don’t be fooled by the title. Its a desperate attempt to tell of jealousy and envy of Antonio Salieri towards Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.. Perhaps if the title of the series was different, I wouldn’t feel so offended. Don’t waste your time watching this. Truly, cheesy as it gets. See more Jean W @RT29749625 May 22 This series does not even begin to approach the 1984 movie. It has removed much of the humor that made the movie so appealing and replaced it with vulgarity. Is the constant use of the F-word supposed to be appealing, funny, or - what? It's ridiculous. See more atreu73 G @RT64249060 May 20 Somebody ought to tell the producers that there indeed is a film that goes by the very same name except it is far better. Lets hope future projects don't make the same mistake again, and again and again. See more Michael F. @RT72649762 May 17 Just finished episode 2, really entertaining and moving. Ya not sure of the one star reviews... See more Chris B. @KidCrooks May 15 What’s all the hate for ? Pleasant series See more Read all reviews
