It does what every worthwhile adaptation does (and what so many other recent re-adaptations have failed to do), which is make the story feel complete unto itself. Go to Full Review

The music, the sets, the costumes—all gorgeous—but pallid imitation fails as sincere flattery in this overstuffed, five-part streaming version of a Tony winning play and Oscar-winning movie. Go to Full Review

Bettany takes full advantage in his meticulously controlled performance; we can feel the rot eating him from within. As Salieri’s foil, the musically inclined Joseph II, Rory Kinnear is also excellent. Go to Full Review

Much like the play, this miniseries uses these two real-life figures to explore jealousy, religion and the mystery of where talent comes from. Go to Full Review

After all, who can possibly value historical accuracy when reviewing a show about Mozart?. See more katelin B @mememimimeow Apr 6 Honestly, Amadeus just doesn’t work. And not just because of the weird casting — even though that definitely doesn’t help. The real issue is that the whole thing feels like it’s trying way too hard from start to finish. Everything is pushed, forced, never natural. The writing is hollow. There’s a lot going on, but nothing underneath. It mistakes energy for chaos, intensity for overload. So you lose interest pretty quickly, because it feels like it’s trying to sell you something "deep" that just isn’t. Tryin' being modern… it’s almost embarrassing. It ticks every "so 2020" box: pseudo-edgy tone, punchy lines that sound empty, hyperactive direction trying to hide the lack of substance. The problem is, it already feels outdated. Like it’s chasing trends that are long gone. In the end, Amadeus is just a lot of noise for very little payoff. It thinks it’s bold, but it’s just heavy-handed. And it tries to feel current while already being out of date. See more Pompous M @RT47734883 Feb 5 Engaging and well acted. Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany are superb. The genius of Mozart the extraordinarily gifted composer is well explored. He was truly the pop genius of his era. Ignore the bigoted audience reviews and their pathetic pre occupations with woke nonsense. See more Read all reviews
