Audience Member Just a convoluted story with Harvey Keitel arriving on screen late, not worth the wait just to see him. He's kind of out of place though his act is good. But the whole on and off action coupled with mystery just does not make total sense and has you lost at the end. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Kinski is great, although the "impulsive risk-taking" that Toback wants to follow inside her, through different types of life and types of movies, isn't written believably. She's his wish-fulfillment fantasy and eventually her curiosity isn't active anymore; she is just an observer of two active, automatic and solipsistic men who are able to preternaturally mesmerize women for no reason that gets exposed on film. Toback tries to go Hitchcock, and tries to go Godard to get from Hitchcock back to Toback, and ends up with a kind of action movie by a hopelessly intellectual pervert. Excellent cinematography except for the panoramic city shots, which belong in stock footage, and which the pervert is using to bore the pants off you. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member AN interesting flawed film by James Toback. Kinski is pretty good, though it's the rambling, bizarre plot that fails to impress. There are some good scenes and less erotica than one might expect. Harvey Keitel gives yet another great performance as a terrorist in a small part. He plays the baddie like no one else can. The locations and direction are very very good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Extremely odd film by Toback is captivating, albeit in a very disjointed way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member nastassja is good as Rudolf Nureyev but they couldnt hold the movie with that weak scenario .. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Weird--in good and bad ways. Why Nureyev? Nastassja Kinski looking radiant throughout. Richard Brody New Yorker Tensely pendular tracking shots and deft full-circle pans mesh split-second action with a repressed romanticism; after a tautly efficient car chase, the inevitable conflagration yields a majestic, paranoid stillness. Nov 24, 2014 Full Review Janet Maslin New York Times The film's ambitions get in the way of its action all the way through. Aug 30, 2004 Full Review TV Guide A diverting piece of glitz, the film has attractive people doing odd and interesting things in strange and wonderful places. Jan 9, 2017 Full Review Jonathan R.
