Joe S Awesome animation with Poe's horror tales. The Pit and the Pendulum and The Masque of the Red Death are especially beautiful works of cartoon art. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/17/23 Full Review Dean W Top Notch. Different styles of animation and Bela Lugosi narrates the second one! Naysayers be damned Christopher Lee is amazing the art direction impeccable. Loses half a star for not being longer and the so-so connecting narrative bits. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review johann m An animated anthology of five stories adapted from Edgar Allan Poe ("The Fall of the House of Usher", "The Tell-Tale Heart", "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar", "The Pit and the Pendulum", and "The Masque of the Red Death"). With incredible narrators and different stunning and spellbinding styles of animation, it leaves us wishing for more. Poe's stories are heart-pounding and unique and even though some stories manage to capture his excellent writing, others fall short. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member As a fan of Edgar Allan Poe, this movie is my personal cup of tea. It has good animation and good voice actors (especially with Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi and Guillermo del Toro who are my favorite celebrities) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/02/18 Full Review Audience Member Was on cell for all of it bc didn't find it appealing. Wasn't the animation I was hoping for ie dark, grimy. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review nilufer e 5 different styles of animations all based on Edgar Allen Poe's amazing short stories, I was impressed. even with the way that they were combined with the statue and the ravens conversation. Justin Chang Variety Five stories by Edgar Allan Poe get varied treatment in this striking but inert animated compendium. Oct 25, 2015 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com Poe's storytelling gift is so timeless, and the voice actors assembled so captivating, that "Extraordinary Tales" can't help but work on some level. It just never quite rises above that faint praise. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 23, 2015 Full Review Charles Solomon Los Angeles Times "Extraordinary Tales" reminds viewers that animation can enable an artist to realize an individual vision, even on a limited budget. Oct 22, 2015 Full Review Rachel Wagner rachelsreviews.net For me The Tell-Tale Heart was really the only short I loved. The rest had major flaws that took me away from the film. Rated: C- Apr 18, 2019 Full Review Sandie Angulo Chen Common Sense Media Poe's creepy, unevenly adapted tales aren't for young kids. Rated: 3/5 Jan 8, 2016 Full Review Zach Hollwedel Under the Radar Unsure of its targeted demographic, Tales straddles the tonal line, flip-flopping like a fish left on the dock.
