Joe Lipsett The Queer Gaze (YouTube) An extremely fun and clever riff on both buddy comedies, as well as indie queer films, Leung and Xu have a lived-in friendship that makes them a delight to watch, even in the film's slight moments. Rated: 4/5 Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Miyako Pleines Spectrum Culture In some ways, it’s a stoner movie, but it goes a lot further beyond your average Pineapple Express comedy to approach something more profound. Jan 15, 2025 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall This is an energetic, enjoyably messy portrait of a lifelong friendship. And it marks Xu and Leung as actors and filmmakers to watch. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 14, 2025 Full Review Jim Vorel Paste Magazine It’s a film about the transitory periods of life, the ending of comfortable status quos and the disintegration of relationships that may only have been held together mostly by convenience. Rated: 6.8/10 Jan 8, 2025 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Not everything here is successful, but the delicately handled character material pays dividends, and the real life chemistry between the two stars carries across well to their characters. Rated: 3/5 Jun 14, 2024 Full Review Sara Clements Next Best Picture The theme of friendship is strong here, and, in turn, we can all see ourselves in a story about how film brings people closer together.
