Dubbed "the greatest that never was," Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1's most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he's a nomadic racer-for-hire when he's approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to FORMULA 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He'll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team's hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny's past catches up with him and he finds that in FORMULA 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition--and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.

Coleman Spilde Salon.com F1: The Movie is not just a movie, it's a film constructed to look like entertainment, with all of the bells and whistles ringing so loudly you'll forget that what you're watching has very little in the way of actual story. Jul 3, 2025 Full Review Jonathan Dean The Times (UK) Pitt aside, the film is structured like a routine sports movie: a crashes-and-revivals narrative that takes in several international grand prix... while doing exactly what Bruckheimer promised in delivering the most realistic racing film yet. Rated: 3/5 Jul 2, 2025 Full Review David Sims The Atlantic Sonny’s quest to prove his doubters wrong resembles the arc of many a sports drama. But Kosinski elevates that journey by capturing racing in all of its gorgeous, peculiar glory -- there’s never been a portrait of Formula One quite like it. Jul 1, 2025 Full Review Blake Howard One Heat Minute Shot during actual race weekends — smuggled into 15-minute intervals between live F1 sessions — the production is itself a kind of motorsport. Jul 15, 2025 Full Review Derrick Murray NERDBOT When the tires are on the track, “F1” soars with visual mastery and pulse pounding action. But when it spends a majority of its overly long runtime outside of the race, it slams on the brakes hard and comes to a screeching halt. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 15, 2025 Full Review Kevin Carr Fat Guys at the Movies Fans of racing will love this, but it feels like it’s written and directed by Testosterone itself, with some script punch-ups from Sports Films Cliches and daddy issues.
