Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald Rymer's adaptation is a mixed bag. The film is well cast and played and it eventually achieves a compelling emotional power, but it's laborious. Rated: 3/5 Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Glenn Dunks Onya Magazine Face to Face will never be mistaken for the most exciting film of the year, but it's a bold one nonetheless that rewards viewers with spiky wordplay and tart performances. Rated: B Oct 17, 2013 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) With the ensemble cast all instinctively attuned to Williamson's clever contrasting of the realities on the factory floor with the delusions of head office, Face to Face stares down doubters with pure intent. Rated: 3/5 Sep 8, 2011 Full Review Simon Foster sbs.com.au The strengths of Face to Face far outweigh its shortcomings. A smart blend of social satire and moral think piece, it's resonant Australian movie-making best suited to a mature audience. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 8, 2011 Full Review Thomas Caldwell Cinema Autopsy Initial distracting staginess aside, Face to Face is compelling cinema that showcases a marvellous group of performers. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Margaret Pomeranz At the Movies (Australia) But, apart from an excess of hugging, which Hakim objects to too, this is a really riveting piece of drama which barely tests the talents of Michael Rymer as director, but my goodness he does a good job here. Mia D Wow… I was completely gripped!!! So many twists and turns but everything was stacking up to a brilliant series and end. Defo a must watch! People watching with subtitles; it doesn't make the series any different… you can really watch what is going on and follow the subtitles easily as. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty good for a movie mostly set in one room. Wasn't at all sure I would get into this one, but the characters are so well drawn you can't help but get hooked in. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Strong performances all round, in this great topical film Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Face To Face is really grounded in reality. I am not easily engaged in Australian films but this was terrific. Despite my opinion on two of the actors in this film I must say that they all did a fantastic job. This story was beautifully written. Some of the issues raised in this film such as work place bullying and racism makes this film a true reflection of what its like to be in the Australian workforce. If you are looking for a good Australian Drama you should look no further. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Fine minimalist filmmaking with a superb screenplay and cast. Who said all Australian films were boring? Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Face to Face will never be mistaken for the most exciting film of the year as it never fully removes itself from its theatrical origins, but it's a bold one nonetheless that rewards viewers with spiky wordplay, tart performances and ever increasing dramatic complexity.
