Audience Member An extraordinary silent film that is arguably one of the most sincere & accurate films of childhood ever made regardless of the fact it's silent. The film begins with sorrow...three children loose there mother & the film journeys how they get through it but completely made in the POV & thoughts of the children. The children actors are nothing short of magnificent & just take the film to a whole new level. This is an exceptional drama for early French Cinema. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member stunning film shot on location in the swiss alps in 1923. a precursor of poetic realism, the film treats children in unsentimental fashion despite it's melodramatic story. great acting by the kids especially the young boy, and many beautiful scenes. really surprised it's not better known. on internet archive Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member More redemption from France - exquisitely photographed but overlong. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Talk about under the radar. Never heard a word about this movie until it turned up on TCM. Turns out to be a gorgeous, morally complex story of a young boy coming to grips with his mother's death and his father's remarriage. Truly phenomenal, well worth seeking out. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Truly a classic in foreign silent films! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member jean forest was fantastic! probably one of the most expressive and daring silent performances ever captured. its too bad the movie wasnt as strong though it was decent. there were a couple good action sequences, an avalance sequence in particular Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
