To the students at Harrington High, the principal and her posse of teachers have always been a little odd, but lately they've been behaving positively alien. Controlled by otherworldly parasites, the faculty try to infect students one by one. Cheerleader Delilah (Jordana Brewster), football player Stan (Shawn Hatosy), drug dealer Zeke (Josh Hartnett) and new girl Marybeth (Laura Harris) team up with some of their other classmates to fight back against the invaders.

Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Some of this is fun in a low-grade Hellraiser sort of way, but it reduces the script’s mildest ambitions to hamburger. In The Faculty, it’s Kevin Williamson’s talent that turns into a pod of itself. Rated: C+ Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Nigel Floyd Time Out This smart, involving sci-fi picture, set in an Ohio high school, pays homage to several genre faves, notably Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Thing. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Globe and Mail Rated: 2/4 Apr 25, 2003 Full Review Josh Goller Spectrum Culture In nearly every aspect, The Faculty acts as collage. Admittedly, there are virtually no new ideas here, but rather homages to forebears, direct references to contemporary influences and modernization of classic sci-fi tropes. Jan 11, 2024 Full Review Kristy Strouse Wonderfully Weird and Horrifying The Faculty is an engaging story that breezes by with an energetic fervor that doesn’t slack on bringing the horror when it needs to. Nov 14, 2023 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... a fun loving, self-aware cleverness to both the science-fiction/horror conventions and the teen movie clichés. william s Another Kevin Williamson (writer of Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer) High School centered horror flick. Similar to Scream, the characters are aware of the movies their situation is based on, like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", and play around with the rules of the horror/sci-fi genre. But, where Scream feels fresh and unique, this feels a bit more "paint by numbers" in it's execution. Not that it entirely fails, because I think it's serviceable, but it's nowhere near as iconic. That being said, I really have a soft spot in my heart of 90s/late 90s movies and the vibes alone make it a recommend. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/17/24 Full Review Mike P Goofy but effective amalgamation of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Breakfast Club; along with other sci-fi classics like Alien and The Thing. (And this is a BIG cult favorite and fan classic for Generation Y... It has a HUGE following!)... And a truly excellent cast and a refreshing sense of humor from Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson really keeps this buoyant...(You couldn't ask for a better cast!! Including Jon Stewart as a science teacher????!!!)...Along with solid direction from Robert Rodriguez... And there's some nice alien effects... (THIS alien isn't a big buggy thing like our beloved Xenomorph; it's more like a squid creature with writhing tentacles; and the effect is appropriately creepy). And the movie does kind of cop out at the ending by letting everyone go back to normal...That was a mistake. And I didn't mind the derivative nature of the script since this is part satire; but it did bother some critics. But overall this is a very fun, campy, sci-fi outting. Highlights include the laugh-out-loud hilarious testing scene; which is a spoof on the big testing scene in The Thing...But there's a twist!... (It's a classic!!) Anyway; good overall. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Korra N One of the best horror films of the 90's that came from prolific writer Kevin Williamson (Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer), The Faculty focuses on a fresh look at what alien invasion could look like. A mix of Invasion of the Body Snatchers with Williamson's meta-humor hook, a talented cast and fun direction from Robert Rodriguez make The Faculty a solid standout among this style of horror that came in the wake of Scream. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Katheryne S Great B movie. Selma Hayek. Josh Hartnett. Toby McGuire. And super bad alien creature effects. The Breakfast Club meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers. With Robert Patrick who played The Terminator 2 as another disguised alien. And a classic Pink Floyd tune from The Wall. Yep, your teachers really ARE out to get you! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Ari V Left the review too long, but pretty sure this is an accurate rating. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Sabrina F The Faculty is a highly derivative but fun late 90's horror film. It is very much in the vein of Scream, another Kevin Williamson project, in that you have plenty of teen angst, meta references, sarcasm, and a fairly fast pace. You also get a lot of archetypal teen characters that you never really care about, but that is true of many horror films, honestly. The Thing, Alien, and any adaptation of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers is better than The Faculty, but if you are feeling nostalgic for a 90's teen horror film, this is not a bad one to watch. Just be aware that some of the special effects are a product of their time, so be prepared for some wonky CGI. It added to the film's "time capsule" charm for me, but it might be too clunky for others. Also, the soundtrack is so good in that oh so 90's way.
