Michael Moore's political documentary uses humor and connect-the-dots investigative journalism to question the Bush administration's motives for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The film argues that President George W. Bush and his inner circle used the media to further an agenda that exploited the 9/11 attacks. The close ties of the Saudis to the Bush family, the cynical profiteering of corporations and a political elite beholden to special interests are all cited as elements of a corrupt system.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Extremely one-sided in its indictment of the Bush administration, but worth watching for the humor and the debates it'll stir.

The good stuff -- and there's some extremely good stuff -- keeps getting tainted by Mr. Moore's poison-camera penchant for drawing dark inferences from dubious evidence. Go to Full Review

In all, Fahrenheit 9/11 is a great counterpoint to the Fox News brand of propaganda. It's also a crusade in its own way. Go to Full Review

Much more than a scathing indictment of Dubya-era complicity, Michael Moore's exposé lays bare the devastating heartbreak now central to America's wartime reality. Go to Full Review

Like its Palme d’Or win, Fahrenheit 9/11 is such a product of its time and the sentiment of the world in 2004, but its legacy is one of success and failure depending on what aspect you’re looking at. Go to Full Review

Fahrenheit 9/11 is an admirable film, remarkable in certain parts, done with considerable and heart-felt sincerity. Go to Full Review

A documentary tour de force that transcends mere finger-pointing and name-calling for a much higher purpose. Go to Full Review

Alysha S 01/04/2025 The film raises an interesting question. It doesn't help solve the issue as well as documentaries help solve theirs, however, because it's Michael Moore's view/too biased for even a documentary. That said, it's made clear the film is an expression of Moore's views. Still, it's worth raising the question because it offers something disturbing regarding the Bush administration. See more Mike P 11/05/2024 Another good documentary from Michael Moore...(And it's his second Fahrenheit movie let's not forget!!)...And this is about the disastrous trickle down effects of Trumpism on local politics...And while this is interesting; it's also disappointingly small scale ...I mean I wonder if this wouldn't have been better with more of a focus on national politics...not so much small town Michigan politics...I mean the small towns count; but don't ignore the bigger picture! But anyway..very moderate recommendation.
