Frank J. Avella The Contending Buoyed by Gheghi’s fierce and fully-committed performance, Familia is a thrilling, anxiety-inducing, deliberately frustrating cinematic rollercoaster ride that may lead to redemption or damnation. Rated: A- Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Jose Solís Common Sense Media Some younger audience members might not be captivated by the pace and dialogue-heavy nature of the film, but teenagers will most likely find much to think about from the dynamics observed. Jan 30, 2024 Full Review Lori Meek Ready Steady Cut While Familia isn’t exactly a Christmas film, it does capture the stressful intricacies many people have to deal with during the holidays and any other such functions where relatives have to sit with each other at the same table. Thomas T A lyric film….not a lot of action but a lot of emotion. Great acting. About the messiness of our lives and the beauty and the challenges of family. I’ll watch it again in two weeks to see what I missed the first go round. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Castulo G One of the best films in a long time, tucked away in the barrage of films on Netflix. Quiet, like a meditation on what Familias can be. Each and everyone gets their moment. No fat. No gimmicks. They all listen. Like it or not, it’s their story. And as we say, “es lo que hay y somos lo que somos.” Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/24/24 Full Review JOHN F Beautiful film. Many moving moments. Slow pace, but the action is all inside the characters, rather like a play by Chekhov or Ibsen. I recommend to anyone with a heart and a brain that need feeding. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review Dani G What a great actor is Gimenez-Cacho! This film relies heavily on his performance, and everytime I see him, it's amazing how convincing are his roles Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Moshe S Liked it very much. About life, family relations, kids growing up and leaving home, parents getting old and left alone by the kids, kids growing up to be completely different from each other, grandkids new generation behavior Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/25/23 Full Review Michael M Revealing look at a day in the life of a modern Mexican family faced with a decision which will effect them all. This movie has a lot of heart. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
