Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Family Romance, LLC feels too casual to satisfactorily delve into the topic of identity in the modern world, but it does offer up a few intriguing vignettes. Rated: 3/5 Dec 9, 2020 Full Review Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) It is Herzog's best film since 2010's Cave of Forgotten Dreams - seemingly slight at first, but with a premise that snags in your brain, and moments of pure oddball transcendence. Rated: 4/5 Nov 22, 2020 Full Review Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) Uneven by Herzog's standards, but it's so intriguing as a premise that it carries you through the film. Jul 22, 2020 Full Review Erick Estrada Cinegarage In this bitter comedy of misunderstandings and fictitious yet naturalistic situations, Herzog walks between dehumanization and the asceptic nature we've embraced [Full review in Spanish] Feb 1, 2023 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia It subtly mixes drama with documentary to offer an illuminating look at the disillusionment of a postmodern society trapped in the culture of the simulacrum that falsifies human bonds. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 7/10 May 15, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review By merely watching and allowing his camera to linger much longer than another director would, Herzog invites questions about the social roles we play and the nature of reality itself. Audience Member With almost ahome-made movie, legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog returns with this, an exploration of human connections, deffending its place as one of the best films of the year and, also, as the best fiction movie Herzog has done in a too long time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member An astonishing film on so many levels. That Werner Hertzog does not speak Japanese is just one, yet he has managed to pull off something practically impossible and make it look easy, unlabored, and beautiful. It is an innovative and creative masterpiece. Japan is forced to stand on the leading edge of technology in order to solve challenges of high population and lack of natural resources, and the rest of the world must soon follow. I recommend it highly to anyone who knows and appreciates Japan, and to anyone else looking to understand the relationship between technology, human identity, and connection. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review william k With a topic as if created for Werner Herzog, this (fictional) story is slyly presented in his unmistakable documentary style with lots of amazing and surprising moments. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review a.l.jude p As customary way the director had dared to explore the unseen. This time his microscope has gone through one of the Japanese subculture somewhat bizarre in rest of the world but not to Japanese themselves. Great movie as the rest of Werner Herzogs' Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A matrushka of pretientioness in the form of a first year film student looking movie. So many things to say about this, but why bother? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Great hybrid drama, great anthropology idea. Tells us more about 2020 than anything else, I have seen. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
