David Ansen Newsweek The Family Stone works hard to warm the cockles of our hearts. The cast is attractive. The sentiments are commendable. But the love Bezucha wants us to feel for the family couldn't possibly compete with the love they already feel for themselves. Dan L Good jesus, this is a prime example of why I don't watch rom-coms... absolute shambles throughout! I only watched it to see the early Rachel McAdams who is an absolute diamond for the screen. Shame she's only a bit-part in this yawnfest... the comedy writing is appalling and doesn't flow or make any sense? AVOID even at Christmas! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review Perla C Gosh, this movie was bad. Great actors but the story felt like it was all over the place. It was cringey and lacked substance. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review C.C. R A great feel good movie that I watch monthly. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Jeff M This review certainly isn't going to win me any new friends - I realize it's a holiday favorite for many. To me, it started as a glorified Hallmark movie, complete with the overworked female executive glued to her cell phone, that surprisingly devolved into a slapstick comedy before the tear-jerking finale. I will grant you, in between, there are some truly wonderful moments. Mulroney and Keaton share a very brief scene that is quite emotional and one of the few authentic moments. An unexpected gift on Christmas morning also elicited a tear and a goosebump or two. Ultimately it's Parker who threatens to destroy the film - her role isn't believable for a second and her performance is grating. That's a shame, because otherwise the cast does a good job of creating a very familial atmosphere, although there's SO many characters that we don't really get a chance to know them. Danes, as Parker's sister, enters the film halfway through and provides a needed shot in the arm. She radiates warmth and charisma, and I would have killed for more scenes with her and Mulroney. There are aspects here I treasure, so much so that I would watch it again if it happened to be on TV, but my overall take is that a potentially classic holiday film is merely adequate. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Bob P It wasn't awful but is the best you can do with an epic all-star cast. The plot had promise but the script was flat and needed more intrigue. The chemistry with the couples was non-existent and Rachel McAdam was the only actor to perform to her potential. For a RomCom there was not enough Rom or Com. Stick with gems like Lover Actually and the Holiday for really good Christmas entertainment. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Gamezmines This movie sucked, they all hated on the main character Meredith but she never meant any harm, the sister comes in half way through the movie and adds nothing too it. Also the sister was a terrible, like she didn't really care about Meredith when trying to look for her she taking a walk with her boyfriend like what????, your sister goes missing and you taking a slow walk with her boyfriend "trying to find her", then the boyfriends tries to spend more time with the sister when his girlfriend is gone. Then they instantly like the sister better than Meredith. Overall hated this movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
