Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express This harrowing film by Nagraj Manjule, about a Dalit family forced to eke out a living by capturing pigs, is a necessary slap in the face... Aug 17, 2021 Full Review Anupama Chopra Film Companion I think Nagraj Manjule is one of the finest filmmakers we have working currently. May 18, 2020 Full Review Siddhant Adlakha Slashfilm A soulful portrait of character, place and memory, told from the lens of a tumultuous childhood. It builds, incisively, to a stunning, saddening, even enraging climax, holding accountable those who would uphold the perceived normality of caste oppression. Jul 12, 2019 Full Review Charles Mudede The Stranger (Seattle, WA) Nagraj Manjule's film is expertly paced, elegantly scored (no sitars but mandolins and violins), and packed with convincing details of village life. Audience Member A very arty film about a poor school boy having crush on the girl in his school who is of upper caste. And all his aspirations get crushed when his family has to catch a pig in front of the enitre village including the girl. A ok film if you are able to sit through a typical arty film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Not quite as deep or moving as its reviews might suggest, but it does make some excellent social observations on the impoverished in this part of India. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Insightful and well-observed. Underneath the fun and games is real bitterness and a stinging indictment of inequality (as represented by the caste system, but really, could be applied anywhere). Props to the ballsy ending. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member It makes your heart ache, it makes you cry, it makes you think. ?#?Fandry? a powerful Marathi cinema. It not only has a great theme but also made with great cinematographic prowess. Has a melancholic theme but presented very well and the actors have delivered a powerful and enchanting performance in equal parts. Qudos to the producers/directors and to the Marathi audience for making room to such non-commercial theme without which it is impossible to make such movies! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member On the face of the caste system that is prevalent in India.. this sure is one thought provoking movie, pushing the spectator to rethink about the social construct of our society, the notions of inequalities, suffering, exploitation and nation.. it is a must watch.
