Audience Member I do like the star of this film, Lieh Lo, who's appeared in some quality marital arts action flicks like "Five Fingers of Death" and "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin," but this film felt like a quickie ripoff of "The Flying Guillotine." Like that film, this one revolves around Lo retrieving medicine for a corrupt government official, for a case of the most bizarre looking cancer ever. Lo uses his Dragon Missile (basically a metal bladed boomerang) much like Jimmy Wang Yu used his Flying Guillotines, though the fight sequences here seem workmanlike and without a lot of originality or flair. They're not badly made, but really don't seem to offer anything special. Overall, the film is fast paced, has plenty of action, has good production values, but doesn't really offer much originality or anything all that special. Worth checking out for martial art fans, but there is certainly better stuff out there. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The year should say 1976 and the main star was Lo Lieh, but yeah, I saw this earlier today. El Rey has been showing some of the best Shaw Brothers movies for months, but I'd already seen all of them, except for one, The Dragon Missile. The name comes from these 2 dragon-shaped blades that Lo Lieh uses -- when thrown like boomerangs, they easily behead opponents and always come back. The movie felt different from most others in the genre in that Lo Lieh is the main character but also pretty much the main villain. He performs some horrific acts that can't really be forgiven. He shows a little bit of hesitation but ultimately kills anyone his master tells him to because... well, just because it's his job. His master sends out a half dozen other killers to keep an eye on him during a very important mission, and to kill him once he completes it, but ultimately who is the lesser of the evils doesn't matter much since a pair of heroes will enter the story and it becomes about Lo Lieh trying to survive their quest for revenge against him. Revenge which would be quite appropriate. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Thank you El Rey Network for showing old Kung fu movies.
