FILM GEEK is a joyous and emotional look back at a movie-obsessed kid growing up in New York City and his relationship with his mysterious father. Crafted entirely out of film clips from over 200 movies, as well as his personal archives, Emmy and DGA award-winning director Richard Shepard (THE MATADOR with Pierce Brosnan) mines the material for clues to understand his own cinematic DNA.

Calum Marsh New York Times Shepard describes movies in clichés, when he describes movies at all. More often he is talking about himself, a subject of interest to far fewer viewers. May 16, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Lillian T An homage to the art of film, childhood, the creator's (Richard Shepard's) father, and to a specific era in New York City 1970s-80s, as well as to how craft catches up with artistic vision and desire through immersion and obsession. Wonderful, honest, subjective and stimulating, and yes, artistic and multi-layered. I plan to watch it again, and maybe again after that. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
