On the last day of 1999, pregnant Paloma (Leonor Watling) and her hapless husband, Manuel (Juanjo Martinez), go to a party in a borrowed car that breaks down along the way, so they begin hitchhiking across Madrid. Unbeknown to them, Paloma's father (Emilio Gutiérrez Caba) had been intending to pick them up, but is now wandering the city as well, after having his car stolen by young Johnny (Carlos Fuentes). As the evening progresses, the characters cross paths, often barely missing each other.
