Nick Allen RogerEbert.com The film wants to be as amiable as a drunken singalong, but it's too pushy to make you want to join in. Rated: 2/4 Jul 24, 2020 Full Review Glenn Kenny New York Times Between predictable, commonplace plot turns and characterizations of music business types that are even more obnoxious than the norm, the movie's straining for effect is less than ingratiating. Jul 23, 2020 Full Review Mark Jenkins Slant Magazine The script doesn't contain many lines that ring true, and a few clang wildly off-key. Rated: 2/4 Jul 18, 2020 Full Review Calum Cooper Source (Scotland) Your enjoyment of the film will depend entirely on how forgiving you are of its lack of originality or subtlety. Rated: 2/5 Jul 14, 2024 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies With its irresistible mix of feel-good vibes, infectious musical numbers, great rapport, and playful humor, “Fisherman’s Friends” makes the formulaic storytelling pretty easy to overlook. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 20, 2022 Full Review Cris Kennedy The Canberra Times (Australia) What makes this film a joy is the moody cinematography by Simon Tindall, so atmospheric you can almost taste the sea salt. Kandy A A feel-good movie from beginning to end. Really heart warming. A great cast with a bunch of hilarious characters that exude true friendship in a caring community against the snobbery of the manipulative music industry. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/19/24 Full Review Alison L Heartwarming and and an enjoyable change from car chases, super heroes and badly written rom-coms. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review Paul G I was looking forward to a true-to-life story of how the fishermen had the success they achieved. Instead I got a brain-dead script with cringe-worthy storylines which to me would have been dated thirty years ago. Honestly, there is a lot of cheese. Having said that, it was watchable and I enjoyed the music, but really.. get with the times script writers. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Michael G The scenery and affable characters don't compensate for the paint by numbers, boilerplate script. The sea scenes were obviously studio filmed given the lack of wind that must be ever present in that locale. Interesting that the filme appeared to have been shot in the same village as Martin Clunes. His dour assessment would have been welcome Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/05/23 Full Review Kim T A funny British comedy with heart. Based on a true story of fisherman who became well known singers. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/05/23 Full Review Shirley S A rare gem in the 21st century i.e. a simple, feelgood tale (based on a true story) with no wokery, no political propaganda or OTT cgi. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
