Audience Member Interesting subject matter (the battle of evolution vs intelligent design in US school system) but somewhat average documentary. Has many good points but needed a little more editorial work as now same subjects are raised too many times. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I sympathized with the filmmaker's point-of-view and wanted to see this film succeed, but I don't know if that was possible with the budget he had available to him. A lot of the film consisted of conversations he had with his evolutionary biologist friends and various figures within the so-called "Intelligent Design" movement. He cuts away from the various neo-creationists he's interviewing to allow his educated friends to refute what they are saying, which comes across as a little heavy-handed... but then he also does not do very much to educate the audience about the facts supporting evolution. (There are some, to be sure, but the film is surprisingly light on science, almost like he's afraid to exert his audience.) Still, I gave the film two and a half stars because he doesn't demonize the people he interviews...and raises an important and overlooked issue (the influence pro-medieval-era-science Christian fundamentalists have over our science curriculum.) Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Intelligent Design is such an easy target, it's the stupid leading the stupid and this documentary introduces us to the key players of this stupidity! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Kind of a Ross McElwee approach to the science documentary, offering an engaging and surprisingly even-handed look at what is essentially a media war. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty good doc that shows the vapid ignorance of intelligent design proponents as well as the dorky insularity of actual scientists which allows creationism to fester in our public schools. The real scientists need to get out of their basements and labs and engage Americans on the importance of an education in evolution. Otherwise these scientists will be extinct, and the only folks left to "teach" will be the religiously-motivated. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Not compelling. Just a guy sitting there listening patiently regardless of the ridiculousness of the argument. Patience does not make for a good movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
