Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal Janet Grillo's modestly produced feature breaks no new ground in depicting those who live with autism -- both the afflicted and their loved ones. Apr 22, 2011 Full Review Diego Semerene Slant Magazine Suffers from a generic sterility we've come to associate with made-for-TV movies. Rated: 1/4 Apr 17, 2011 Full Review Elizabeth Weitzman New York Daily News A well-meant drama that never transcends its earnest aims, Janet Grillo's feature debut is notable mostly for an heroic turn from lead Beth Broderick. Rated: 2/5 Apr 15, 2011 Full Review Mark Bell Film Threat The performances by all involved are stellar from start to finish, and the film tackles a tough subject with all the reverence and care one would hope to see... Rated: 4/5 Nov 19, 2012 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews Fly Away's overall success is hampered by its narrow focus and relatively uneventful storyline... Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 19, 2011 Full Review Brian Orndorf BrianOrndorf.com A stimulating sense of realism that helps to shape a raw, compassionate portrait of life lived with the disorder, finding pauses of behavior and response that shock and enlighten. Audience Member A good story to introduce someone to autism. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Each and every performance helps to capture the struggles of having a child with autism, making for an emotional journey. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member When I found out that Fly Away is about a mother and her autistic teenage daughter, I just had to see it. I thought it was powerful, emotional, and heartbreaking. This is like the female version of Rain Man. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member When I found out that Fly Away is about a mother and her autistic teenage daughter, I just had to see it. I thought it was powerful, emotional, and heartbreaking. This is like the female version of Rain Man. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member A realistic portrayal of a mid-functioning autistic girl, and of the toll it takes on her increasingly desperate single mother. The actress who plays Mandy does a really believable job showing the difficulties of autism. The film's simplistic ending implies a solution has been found, but the problems are clearly still there. The story line was just ok, in my opinion. I have seen better dramas. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is all right for what it is, but still pretty stereotypical about what Autism actually is. Ashley Rickards is a good actress, but the rest of the acting from the others is awkward at times. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
