Mark S I met Nancy when I moved to Hawaii and became involved with Kona Coffee. I had heard a few references to her family sailing, but never any detailed stories. Before this documentary was completed, a few of us spoke with her about her trips. When I finally watched it, I was amazed! This isn’t a dramatized recreation—it’s the actual footage she filmed during their travels. As you begin watching, you may think that these events couldn’t possibly have all happened, yet the documentary presents the real moments as they unfolded. You don’t need a background in sailing to appreciate the sheer vastness of the world and the incredible journey this family undertook. From being accused of espionage to crashing on a reef and losing their engine, from building a new ship (out of concrete!) to discovering an abandoned stockpile of food and meeting the Russians—this is a true adventure that Nancy shares with viewers. Sadly, Nancy has passed away, but her story lives on through this remarkable documentary. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend watching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Audience Member This is a totally absorbing and very moving movie. Almost wholly comprised of 16mm film shot in the 60s and early 70s, it tells the incredible story of Bob and Nancy Griffith, who met in 1960. For most of the following two decades, they sailed their 52' yacht on long ocean voyages, including three circumnavigations of the globe and Antarctica. With no sponsorship or support, no GPS, no electronics at all. Most of the cinematography was by Nancy and it’s full of detail and depth. She narrates it, too - it’s the story of their lives and those of their young children. Those adventurers never let any problems get in their way, in sharp contrast to almost everyone else, living ordinary lives. This film is of the kind that you don’t forget in a hurry. Don’t miss the chance to watch it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
