In a way, it may simply be how it connects with the viewer that sets it apart. There is a quality in how the film is written, how the characters are created, and how everything is directed that sets it above the rest of the subgenres it belongs in.

Except for some intriguing ideas and some decent action sequences, but much more to recommend this for. Acting is okay but the plot is pretty muddled. Some zombie apocalypse fans may get something out of this mess of a movie, but be prepared to fast forward through a few scenes.

Despite a compelling opening act, F.E.A.R. is a mediocre horror drama about a family struggling to survive a global epidemic. And yes...the ones who are infected by this virus turn into bloodthirsty zombies. Similarly to the universe of "The Walking Dead", the wandering marauders are the deadliest enemies this family will have to face (zombies play a small role as they barely appear on screen). A forgettable movie!
