Although the Japanese government is trumpeting recent military successes in their invasion of Manchuria, many in the rural provinces are starving due to the economic isolation brought on by their expansionist actions. In February 1936, a military coup led by idealistic officers Shiro Nonaka (Kenichi Hagiwara) and Teruzo Ando (Tomokazu Miura) attempts to overthrow the Japanese government but struggles to maintain its hold on the center of Tokyo after some early surprise attacks.
