Col. Frank Saunders (Robert Reilly), a robot invented by scientist Dr. Adam Steele (James Karen), is making his first space voyage when his ship is torpedoed by Martians. Saunders lands in Puerto Rico, and the Martians -- looking to abduct women to repopulate their civilization -- tail him there. The harrowing episode leaves the wounded Saunders looking like Frankenstein's monster, but that doesn't stop him from helping Steele battle Princess Marcuzan's (Marilyn Hanold) Martian warriors.

Audience Member Compared to some 50's and 60's cheese ball sci-fi and horror I have watched over the years, this movie is not entirely bad. I first came across it as a clip of it was shown in the camp classic "It Came from Hollywood." One of the goals when I started my own movie review blog, The Midnite Drive-In, was to try to track down some of the original films from which that movie culled it's clips. It took a while for me to figure out which clips came from which movies, since only in the credits did you get a list of said movies, and it didn't identify which clips came from which movies. Some of those movies were well deserving of ridicule. This one has it's problems, but overall it's not entirely horrible. It's saving grace, believe it or not, is an excellent over-the-top performance by a bald headed, pointy eared Lou Cutell (Assman from Seinfeld, and the Amazing Larry from "Pee-Wee's Big adventure") as Dr. Nadir. Otherwise, nobody, not even James Karen, who makes his film debut here, is very memorable. But yet it is worth a watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review Dallas H What the hell? I didn't know Ed Wood was still working in this town! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review CodyZamboni Z Cheap, stupid, campy, And not in a good way, Overloaded with annoying stock footage of NASA and military manuevers, As robot astronaut goes haywire, Crash lands in Puerto Rico, and battles aliens bent on taking Earth's hottest women to re-populate their planet, Only worthy items ---- lots of attractive bikini clad women, And some nice travelogue montages of Florida and Puerto Rico. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review mister m I saw a scene from this movie in "It Came from Hollywood" in 1982 but could never find the movie or even its title until tonight... 41 years later! So awesome to finally meet Dr. Nadir and The Princess and get to see it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/29/23 Full Review Audience Member The only things that make seeing "Frankenstein meets the Space Monster" (Alternate Title: "Mars Invades Puerto Rico") is the movie marks the film debut of veteran character actor (and longtime Pathmark supermarket spokesperson.) the late James Karen and an amusing appearance by Bruce Glover. There is just too many things wrong with this movie for me to recommend it. First is the title itself. I believe the studio itself thought that by putting the word "Frankenstein" in the title it would attract a larger audience. With the exception of the late James Karen the acting is way below par. Marylin Hanold is not too bad as the lead villain Princess Marcuzan, but overall the cast is not very good. The extras are especially bad. The basic story has a major flaw with it. An atomic war on Mars has killed every woman on the planet so the Martians have come to Earth to kidnap all of the women their space ship can carry and take them to Mars to ensure their race survives. If all of the Martian women have died in the war, how did the Princess survive? The movie never answers that. Also the titular Space Monster is just plan goofy. Just a man in an unconvincing costume flailing his arms around. Goofy and cornball movies can be fun and entertaining (Just watch any Ed Wood movie.) but "Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster" is neither. Don't bother with this movie. It is not worth your time.
