Critics Consensus

While Frankenstein's Monster's Monster, Frankenstein's offbeat sense of humor might be too strange for some, those looking for a kooky new comedy will find much to like in its spooky spoofs.

John Doyle Globe and Mail It's more than a sketch and more than a comedy doodle. It's a ludicrously knotted send-up of the craft of acting and a near-hallucinatory mocking of the seriousness that actors place in hokey, blood-and-thunder work. Jul 19, 2019 Full Review Karen Han Polygon For better or worse, the special unquestionably belongs to Harbour. That center flourishes when he's left to his own devices. Jul 17, 2019 Full Review Tim Goodman The Hollywood Reporter In the end, all that matters is that the rules of old television are broken. There is no form. Here, watch this thing we did, or not. There's something oddly likeable about that. Jul 17, 2019 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...amusement is to be found... Rated: 4/5 Jan 23, 2024 Full Review John Tones Espinof A refreshing mockumentary that allows David Harbour to shine. Jay W David Harbour stars in this TV short, where he is trying to uncover a mystery about his father. Harbour's father, also played by David Harbour, performed a TV Movie based on Frankenstein. Conflict ensues as Harbour feels his co-stars are trying to upstage him. Meanwhile. David Harbour III is interviewing people who knew his father in an attempt to unravel what happened with his father. The production of the TV Movie is hilariously cheap looking, and there is a funny deep cut about Orson Well's wine commercial. Where the TV short falls short for me is the storyline with David Habour III investigating his father. Sadly that is about half of the runtime of the show. There is a lot of the show that leaves the audience wondering, where is the joke? It is seriously stupid, but the joke is how stupidly serious they take the whole thing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/02/24 Full Review andrew k Ridiculously funny ... and funnily ridiculous. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review tom m A silly little half hour thing. The lead, David Harbour, features in "Stranger Things" so I gave it a try. It was entertaining enough as a small time filler. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Terrible horrible cringe short film on Netflix. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review lucca b A mockumentary short with a satirical and offbeat humor that may be unattractive for some, but its narrative is edgy and intriguing, and it's a great showcase of talent from star David Harbour.
