Leslie Felperin Guardian Like the Cat in the Hat but without the feline charm or rhyme schemes, but way more fart jokes. Rated: 2/5 Jul 8, 2025 Full Review Barry Hertz Globe and Mail Frankie Freako is designed to melt your brain. The only question is whether you might welcome such cerebral liquefaction or not. Oct 1, 2024 Full Review Christian Zilko IndieWire While the film clearly plays as an homage to the kinds of kid-friendly, horror-adjacent comedies that ruled the ’80s, its charming commitment to a premise whose asininity borders on trolling makes Frankie Freako a distinctly 21st century product. Rated: B Sep 30, 2024 Full Review Luke Spafford Starburst Frankie Freako is a blast. Rated: 5/5 Jul 3, 2025 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews No substance. Rated: C+ Nov 22, 2024 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy With Frankie Freako, writer-director Steven Kostanski focuses exclusively on such ‘80s efforts as Gremlins, Ghoulies, Critters, Munchies, and any other franchise featuring malevolent creatures performed by puppets. rich s absolutely fantastic. practical effects were amazing. it rode the line of bad writing to being hilarious perfectly. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/08/24 Full Review PVD HORROR _ Frankie Freako feels like a nostalgic trip filled with puppets, hot lines, and bizarres characters like something out of our favorite 80's comfort movies. Stephen Kostanski shows us once again he is an outside the box filmmaker looking to make the films he wants, straying away from whatever the popular trends may be. The human characters are hilarious, delivery dry, quirky humor that feels much like Napoleon Dynamite while the puppets here deliver a Garbage Pail Kids: The Movie energy, creating one bizarre but fun time. There's a lot to love about Frankie Freako but mainly the reason to love this film is it doesn't strive to be something it is not. Frankie Freako wants to party and that's exactly what this movie is all about, not taking yourself seriously and just enjoying the experience. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/25 Full Review Diet Dr. Paul . A fairly decent attempt to cultivate a B Horror experience but with some less than great sections to slog through. It’s not Bad per se but it’s not Great either… just a relatively cut and dry camp-fest that has some endearing qualities but isn’t ground breaking. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/01/25 Full Review mic C This movie reminds me why I didn't like movies like these in the 80's. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review Ian B I had a ton of fun with this movie. I loved Psycho Goreman, so if you did too, you will love this. I will admit, it does have that tinge of being really cheap. However, it really transcends that sheen by being genuinely funny, having great setups, fun effects and likeable characters. It's even a little heart felt at times. It's not perfect, but rating it purely on fun, I'd give it 5 stars. I will watch again! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review The Best t How is it possible that the one who created PG makes a completely shameful movie? The characters are even embarrassing Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/17/24 Full Review Read all reviews
