Nigel Floyd Time Out 'Shrooms' director Paddy Breathnach still hasn't the foggiest idea of how to make a horror. Victor O A moment of inspiration has led me to look into Sarah Carter’s filmography, and this movie caught my attention. This movie had the makings of a typical horror movie, an attractive cast straight from CW shows, the occasional veteran actor, cinematography and the directing style. So, I decided to check it out. Catherine and her friends are having a night out, young men and women in their twenties wanting to cut the seriousness of their med school graduate studies and embrace their abrasive, rebelliousness for one night but are put into a position when, Kenneth, the simple-minded janitor at the hospital, extorts a favor to enjoy the night they won’t allow him. Things get crazy and Kenneth is left abandoned to be discovered by the hospital as these reckless young men and women will do anything to protect their careers. But Catherine has a conscience and will not allow Kenneth to simply die, so she goes behind the backs of her superiors to treat Kenneth with a radical drug therapy that then transforms his mind to project it towards his tormentors, obtaining revenge for what happened to him. Catherine believes nothing is wrong at first, but after the first couple of deaths, she realizes the horror she has brought and must do all she can to save the day. This was pretty cool. Though not a great film. I have to say, I feel saddened to be reminded that there are pretty terrible people out there in the world and I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Kenneth, feeling that his unconscious desire for vengeance was well deserved. The story is not wholly original, told in a similar vein to Friday the 13th or I Know What You Did Last Summer. The sci-fi element was cool, and I have to say the secondary title of Freakdog seemed to fit better. Arielle Kebbel played the final girl trope splendidly, though I hated seeing gorgeous ladies Katie McGrath and Sarah Carter playing the selfish girls. All in all, an okay horror movie, but not the most rewatchable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/10/25 Full Review Audience Member Not Oscar-worthy, but much better than the other reviews here would have you believe. The story isn't entirely new, but it was interesting enough to keep me engaged for the full run time. The kills are mean and sometimes clever. The acting and sets are all good enough to build a world where you believe supernatural punishments are happening to a mostly bad group of people. I recommend giving it a shot. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Good acting and great storyline. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review don s A medical horror movie with nothing new to offer. There are few effects, The acting is okay. The clinical explanation for the seemingly supernatural nature of the plot hampered my enjoyment. Arielle Kebbel is a favorite of mine, and I gave this a higher rating for the (too) short time she ran around in her underthings. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Creative premise. Terrible execution of a good idea. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Red Mist is better than what most people say. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
