Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Fairchild is magnificent, and the cinematography is absolutely staggering. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 18, 2021 Full Review Tomris Laffly RogerEbert.com A contemplative film that manages to whisk the audience away to an unfamiliar land whose off-the-grid survival you can't help but root for. Rated: 3/4 Oct 15, 2021 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Freeland has precious little dialogue, so Fairchild conveys her unspoken inner feelings using only her face and eyes. In this she excels, radiating calm, outrage, despair, and melancholic memories. Rated: 3/5 Oct 15, 2021 Full Review Greg Carlson Vague Visages Freeland, of course, is a tour de force showcase for Fairchild — an overnight sensation several decades in the making. May 15, 2023 Full Review Owen Gabbey Pittsburgh City Paper It's pretty easy to overcome these flaws when you have a central performance as good as Fairchild's. The type of work that, if it had more eyeballs, would be considered for any and every award, she is masterful as Devi. Dec 16, 2021 Full Review Filipe Freitas Always Good Movies It's painful what we see - memories of a happy past, the acute awareness of a dark present and the fear of an unknown future. dave d There is a wonderful concept at the heart of 'Freeland', but it lacks a script with any substance. The cinematography is fantastic, but there was so much that could have added to the story of an aging pot farmer who can't cope with the legal loopholes and the corporations ruining her industry. Lily Gladstone continues to be a talent to watch. Despite only being in a few scenes, what she has is, as usual, very good. Final Score: 3.8/10 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/03/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a solid performance about an older pot grower that's edged out of the business when it becomes legal. It's also a sad story about what it would be like to be at the age of retirement and trying to remain relevant in the pot world. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is exceptional. The acting, cinematography and directing are all worthy of rave reviews. The sound was terrific too - felt like ASMR at times. Krisha Fairchild is a gift. What an actor! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a stunning film with a powerhouse central performance. Directors McLean and Furloni have crafted a nuanced, haunting debut that is certain to linger... and for audiences wondering what they will create next.
