Nick M 1919 was such a strong year for Harold Lloyd, and this late entry was an excellent way to ring in the new year. He keeps experimenting with new formats for his comedies, and they are really starting to pay off. His new leading lady, Mildred Davis, is in a typically distressing position that Lloyd must help her get out of, and he does so with gusto. There *were* quite a few recycled gags (right down to brick throwing and Keystone Cop shenanigans), but they were reimagined in such a way that it felt as if he was paying homage to and moving beyond the techniques of the early half of this decade rather than milking them for their last ounce of cream (as he might have a little earlier in his career). The addition of the down-and-out little girl and her dog was a surprising touch for him, and did much to make his character more sympathetic and grown up than he normally comes across. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Audience Member Super fun little Harold Lloyd two reeler which is historically significant for being the first time he worked with his future wife, Mildred Davis! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member introduces mildred davis Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member It's okay, not too many great gags though. I really liked the interplay between Lloyd and the young waif, and I was disappointed when she suddenly disappeared from the picture. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Lloydin llyhärit ovat aina toimivia, viehättäviä ja hyväntuuleisia. Hauska yhteensattuma oli se, että myöhemmin toiselta kanavalta tuli "Blues Brothers": joulupäivänä 2008 tuli nähtyä rautaisannos elokuvia, joissa on paljon poliiseja! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Filled with the running around and falling down schtick that wowed the early film-going audiences, but this particular piece seems pretty standard when it comes to silent film comedy shorts. However, that being said, it's probably one of the films that set those standards. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
