Richard Drumm Film Ireland Magazine From the Dark is a perfectly solid little horror movie that will likely enjoy a decent life on the VOD circuit and, with any luck, a run at the Irish box-office. Apr 5, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Logan L There are horror movies that are bad because they're just silly, and then there are horror movies that are bad because they are aggravating as all hell. This movie is far and away the latter. The decisions the "stars" here make are the worst decisions possible. Now imagine that for an hour and a half. Why do characters in cheap horror movies never shut the hell up and stay quiet when hiding 95% of the time? Their literal lives are at stake and they gasp or whimper or otherwise make some stupid noise at the wrong moment that of course gives away their hiding spot. And for the love of god, back the shaky fucking camera up. Half this movie is way too close up on Sarah's face or back of her head. Speaking of Sarah, she must have an incredible pain tolerance: she cuts off her finger and gets a wooden stake shoved through her foot, squeezes out one or two "ah fuck"s, then just goes on with what she was doing. One full star because the ending wasn't absolutely terrible even though it was massively underwhelming. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/13/23 Full Review Champagne S Fairly decent. A few jumps, but long in between. Not the best, but certainly not the worse. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/26/22 Full Review Audience Member We absolutely loved this film. 4 actors. Virtually no dialogue. Filmed mostly in the dark with the odd light bulb and candle to light the blood drenched night - fantastically edge of the seat stuff. Wonderfully realised with a twist of an ending to satiate the most eloquent and deeply engaging post-mortem for afterwards 🤩 Highly recommended (& best watched in the daytime maybe?!) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member low budget but effective and clever! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/28/19 Full Review Audience Member I'll agree that it isn't the best horror movie out there, but it is far from the worst. The suspense gradually builds throughout the film, the dread is palpable, and the lead character (Sarah) really shines. As far as vampire films go, this film sticks to the gothic roots of the vampire legend and doesn't fall into the tropes of the dark, broody romances that have plagued the vampire genre for a long time. What could be improved? There's little in the way of story in this filmâ"it's pretty much a film about surviving this one particular incident and not much else, which means that the movie leaves a very small impression on the viewer and it certainly doesn't leave you with anything to think about once the credits roll. All in all, though, if you're looking for a suspenseful film to keep you entertained at 3 o'clock in the morning, this film may be for you. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie seemed to be way too drawn out. By the end of the movie I couldn't care what happened. The stars kept making preposterously stupid choices that were more irritating than suspense driven. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/12/18 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
