This is the story of, not just a bid for the primary to run against titan of the Senate Mitch McConnell, but the story of the rise of a movement, one not determined by a single election and one we most certainly have not heard the last of. As a native Louisvillian I was not only impressed but deeply moved by the filmmakers laying out of Kentucky's problems. Problems not unique to Kentucky but rather problems the entire nation grapples with and encapsulating everything this country is going through. Divisions between races, police and their communities, division between political parties, the necessity of Black Lives Matter protests, poverty, lack of access to healthcare, housing, education, a living wage, the problem of fossil fuel dependency, reproductive freedom and voter suppression are all represented in Kentucky. Charles Booker intends to bring people together from the hood to the holler to solve these problems and after watching this documentary I am convinced he can do it.
